In September 2024, Sony announced its PlayStation 5 Pro, a gaming console with boosted performance and improved graphics. The PS5 Pro has already gone on sale in several countries, but its launch in India has been delayed. Here’s why Indian gamers may have to wait a bit longer.
Here’s Why the PS5 Pro Launch is Still on Hold in India
Sony has postponed the release of the PS5 Pro in India and a few other countries due to a regulatory issue. The new PS5 Pro comes with the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard (IEEE 802.11be), which makes downloads faster and improves online gaming. Wi-Fi 7 works on the 6GHz band, allowing wider channels and less interference than earlier Wi-Fi versions.
However, India and some other countries haven’t yet approved this new Wi-Fi standard. Due to this issue, Sony has had to push back the PS5 Pro launch in India. Unlike other regions, it seems the new PlayStation won’t hit the Indian market soon. Until Wi-Fi 7 is approved in India, fans may need to look at buying the PS5 Pro from other countries if they want it right away. This delay has disappointed many who were excited to get their hands on the console.
Smartphones with Wi-Fi 7 Already in India
Interestingly, some smartphones with Wi-Fi 7 have launched in India, but these models only support Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 6. Sony could follow a similar approach, bringing a version of the PS5 Pro to India with these older Wi-Fi options. No official decision has been announced yet, though.
For now, it’s unclear when the PS5 Pro will launch in India. Sony has yet to make any announcements, so stay tuned as we keep an eye out for more updates.
