Galaxy S25 Hits Geekbench with Custom Snapdragon 8 Elite, But the Scores Might Shock You

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series: What You Need to Know

Samsung is getting ready to launch its Galaxy S25 series, which is expected to arrive in January 2025. Among the new models, the base Galaxy S25 has already shown up on Geekbench, giving us a sneak peek at its hardware and performance.

What the Geekbench Listing Tells Us

The Geekbench listing shows the Galaxy S25 with the model number SM-S931N, likely made for the Korean market. It will use a custom Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset. This version of the chip runs at a faster clock speed of 4.47 GHz, compared to the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite, which runs at 4.32 GHz. If you’ve used Samsung flagships before, you might recognize this custom chipset since it’s exclusive to Samsung’s high-end devices.

The tested Galaxy S25 also comes with 12GB of RAM, which means it should handle multitasking and apps with ease.

How Did It Perform?

Despite its promising specs, the Galaxy S25’s performance on Geekbench wasn’t as impressive as you might expect. It scored 2481 in single-core tests and 8658 in multi-core tests, which is noticeably lower than other phones using Snapdragon 8 Elite. For example, phones like the OnePlus 13 and iQOO 13 score over 3100 and 10,000, respectively, in the same tests.

Why Is the Performance Lower?

There are a few possible reasons for the Galaxy S25’s lower scores:

  • The phone may have a smaller cooling system compared to bigger flagship models, which could affect its performance.
  • Samsung might have chosen to focus more on energy efficiency than raw power for this device.

In the past, Samsung’s custom “For Galaxy” chipsets have often prioritized efficiency over outright speed, so this could be the case again.

What About Users in Other Regions?

While this listing specifically mentions the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in the Korean market, there’s good news for users in Europe and India. A well-known leaker, Ice Universe, has shared that Samsung plans to use the Snapdragon chipset for the entire Galaxy S25 series in all regions, just like it did with the Galaxy S23 series.

Although this hasn’t been confirmed yet, it seems likely based on Samsung’s recent decisions.

What’s Next?

We’ll have to wait for more details about the Galaxy S25 series, but with its launch just a couple of months away, more information should be coming soon. Keep an eye out for updates so you can decide if the Galaxy S25 series is the right choice for you
