G-Shock DW-5000R: A Legendary Comeback with a Higher Price

Casio is reviving a legend! The G-Shock DW-5000R, the original watch that kicked off the iconic G-Shock series in 1983, is making a comeback. The updated version, called the DW-5000R, has already appeared on G-Shock’s UK website, hinting at an upcoming release. Casio has also revealed its UK price, with additional details about its cost in Europe.

Pricing and Availability
The DW-5000R-1AER is priced at £179 in the UK, making it quite a bit pricier than the current DW-5600 models, which sell for £99.90. While there’s no confirmed release date in the UK, we might see it launch in late 2024 or early 2025. In Europe, the watch has already started showing up at retailers, with prices ranging between €199 and €259.

What Makes the DW-5000R Special?
The DW-5000R sticks closely to the design of the original 1983 model. The band’s length, texture, and dimpled holes are all modeled after the classic look. The stainless-steel center case and screw-back plate bring back the original “Shock Resistant” engraving, staying true to the classic design. The bold red, blue, and yellow accents on the watch face stay true to the original design, while the bezel prominently displays the “PROTECTION” and “G-SHOCK” lettering.

Casio is producing the DW-5000R at its Yamagata factory, keeping the watch closely tied to its roots.

Modern Upgrades You’ll Love
The DW-5000R keeps its classic design but adds a few handy modern updates. A bright LED backlight ensures you can check the time even in the dark, and Casio has upgraded the bezel and band to eco-friendly bio-based resin. Combining stainless steel and bio-resin, the watch weighs 76 grams and measures 48.9 × 42.3 × 13.1 mm, making it both durable and lightweight.

Built for Everyday Life
Like every G-Shock, the DW-5000R is made to handle whatever life throws at you. It’s shock-resistant and offers 200-meter water resistance, so it’s perfect for outdoor adventures or daily wear. The battery lasts about five years on a single CR2016 cell, so you don’t have to worry about frequent replacements.

The watch comes with useful features like a 24-hour countdown timer, a 1/100-second stopwatch, a multi-function alarm, and a bright “Super Illuminator” LED backlight, making it easy to use anytime, anywhere.

This relaunch combines nostalgia with modern technology, giving you a watch that’s as reliable as it is timeless. Whether you’re a G-Shock fan or new to the brand, the DW-5000R is a piece of history worth owning
