Asus is preparing to launch the ROG Phone 9 worldwide on November 19, 2024. This new gaming phone, which recently appeared on Geekbench ML, will feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite processor from Qualcomm and a huge 24GB of RAM. Thanks to its listing on the Wireless Power Consortium website, we now know a bit more about what the ROG Phone 9 has to offer.
Certified for Wireless Charging
The Wireless Power Consortium database shows that the ROG Phone 9, labeled with the code “AI2501,” has passed all necessary safety checks, getting it closer to release. This listing also indicates that the phone will support 15W wireless charging. The previous model, ROG Phone 8, had a 5,500mAh battery with 65W wired charging, so we can expect similar or slightly improved charging features.
What to Expect: Design, Display, Camera, and Performance
Rumors suggest the ROG Phone 9 has a slight design refresh: instead of the usual RGB ROG logo, Asus has added a light-up ROG text logo to give it a fresh look. Recently, it also received certifications in Indonesia, hinting at a release there soon.
The phone is expected to feature a large 6.78-inch Samsung LTPO AMOLED screen with an FHD+ resolution. Known for its high refresh rates, the ROG Phone 9’s display can switch between 1 Hz and 120 Hz and go up to 185 Hz in Game Genie mode for a smoother gaming experience. Plus, it may reach a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, making it easy to view even in bright light.
On the camera side, the ROG Phone 9 will likely have a 50 MP main camera, a 13 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 5 MP macro lens. For the Pro version, the macro lens might be replaced with a 32 MP telephoto sensor. The front camera is expected to be 32 MP for clear selfies and video calls.
To make the screen more durable, it could come with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, protecting it from scratches and drops. While it’s not confirmed if the ROG Phone 9 will be water-resistant, the ROG Phone 8’s IP68 rating suggests this model might have similar water protection.
Improved Performance
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, the ROG Phone 9 promises better efficiency and performance than the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. With a new design that includes only large processing cores, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will provide up to 45% faster performance in single and multi-core tasks and 30% better graphics performance for smooth gaming experiences.
